he Rainbow Group (LGBT) is our WELCOME sign for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender members and guests of SGI–USA in Oregon. We have a unique mission in discovering how to apply Buddhism in our daily lives just as we are.
We hold quarterly meetings, where you are invited to come over to chant, learn about Buddhism and meet other queer Buddhists. We are always happy for those curious to join us; however, we feel a good starting point is in the home-based district in your neighborhood. Districts are very welcoming. SGI is an organization that believes in the equality of all down to the very core. It is a wonderful place to be LGBT.

SGI President Daisaku Ikeda wrote to the 2007 LGBT Buddhist Conference:
“Buddhism expounds the beauty of individuality as ‘the cherry, the plum, the peach, and the damson’ (The Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings, p. 200). It also elucidates the principle of revealing ‘the Buddha body of limitless joy’ (ibid., 200). Buddhism encourages the cherry or the peach, for instance, to live their respective existences in a natural, cheerful manner appropriate to their unique identities. You don’t have to compare yourselves with others. You should blossom as you are.”
